The Vance Family Association is open to descendants of any family with the surname Vance or one of its variants. One group of variants includes those surnames that, like Vance, arose off the Anglo-Norman de Vaux line; these include Vans, Vaus, Vaux, de Vaux, deVoe, Vaulx, Voss, and others. Another group of variants includes German surnames such as Wentz and Wantz that became Anglicized to Vance in many families that immigrated to America before the 19th century.
Membership in the VFA runs the calendar year and is annually renewable by the first of January each year. New memberships within any one year will receive back issues for that year. Dues received after October 1 will become active as of January 1 of the following year, unless otherwise noted.
The annual VFA membership fee of $15 goes towards publishing a newsletter, maintenance of our web domain and server, expenses surrounding our biennial meeting, and an annual donation to the Lanercost priory. Members who elect to receive their newsletters by the US Postal Service require an additional fee of $5/year. Members receive a copy of our newsletters (online or USPS) and may register to access the members-only section of our website where special content is offered. Current offerings include:
There are two ways to join the VFA or renew your membership;
Pay here with PayPal or you can download the membership form by clicking here. Fill out the form, select the mode of delivery to receive the newsletter, enclose your check for the annual dues and mail these to the address on the form.
When you join, please be sure to submit your Vance pedigree. Membership is restricted to Vance descendants and we review all lineages to ensure that they contain a proven or plausible Vance descent. If you have reason to believe you are a Vance descendant, but lack conclusive proof, we will try to accommodate you. Click here for pedigree submission instructions and guidelines.
